Building a Pig Pen & Rehoming a Heritage Hog

Pigs Pigs Pigs!

Not just one but eight! This meant a much needed Pig Pen so we got to work building one with an organic shape. We came across loads and loads (no really, 20 trailer loads) of heavy concrete blocks last month. Most of the block will be used for fencing around the courtyard but we had a few to spare for the pig pen.

Unused Railroad Ties

Finally a use for the two railroad ties sticking out of the ground that have been in the animal area since we moved here. Bryson designed a slanted roof off of the posts stretching down to the concrete fence to give the little piglets some shade.

Note on the Animal Types

These are heritage pigs simply called the Large Black Hog. The piglets are Large Black/Red Wattle mix as the father was half Large Black and half Red Wattle. Red Wattle is also a heritage Breed. The heritage turkey is a Royal Palm.

Flashback

This is our last Pig Video from 5 years ago! Wow, time flies. The video offers proof to "pigs are normally screeching piles of WOW" according to Bree :)
