Installing Tile, More Roof Rafters & a New Baby Goat
The kitchen roof rafters continue to be added and we get that bathroom tile installed! The last baby goat of the season is born and he's a cutie. And, the news we have been waiting for - Garen makes a special announcement! Check out this week's video to get the low down on the homestead :)

last week Garen prepped the bathroom for
for tile, we removed the eave on the side
of the house and installed the first
rafters for the earthbag additions to
the main house
?
it's heavy
this tile we got many years ago
and now we're putting it to use
what's really cool is that Garen has to
lift this and it's very heavy
and Garen has to haul it and he's very strong
doing it
?
final sweep and then we'll start cutting tile
very cool
?
it's not bad
better than getting the tile saw
out though isn't it
man that things a
beast
this is all the same stuff here
the bigger 18 inch pieces
Dad drew these out
this is where our cabinets and sink are going to be setting
somewhere in here
is where the cabinet will end
I'm thinking I'll do two
here
yeah I'll be
able to get a lot done
Garen is a hard worker
he gets in there and gets it done
but this job is
really getting to Garen
he gets the tile on
but he doesn't like the way the tile
adhesive is working so he pulls the
tiles back off and decides we have to
do something different
seems to be so
distracted
yeah
it's kinda odd
he's a hard
worker
he seems a little distracted - true
besides getting married
well, we knew it was gonna happen one day
Garen's growing up
Ellie is just awesome
Ellie and Garen have been around since
childhood
he fell for Ellie at a really
young age and they've just been the best
of friends for - I think Garen said
nine years
we're engaged
congratulations Ellie and Garen
we're really really happy for the
two of you
and we couldn't really ask
for anybody better
so we're so happy that they've decided to
get married and
we wish you guys are the
best
it'll be awesome

I am replacing the blade of my saw so that it
cuts naturally
nothing I can really do but
wait for them to cut the board
so I don't drop a board on his head

Ellie had a reunion - a family reunion so
Garen went with her there
we're gonna finish up the tile
were not gonna wait around
not us man
get 'er done
one of the things that he was
finding difficult is that the floor is
still not real level even though
he put the leveler on there so we're
having to build up a lot under each of
the tiles
if you use the tile adhesive
- he went through a half a bucket with just two tiles and then, of course, we could
use the thinset to do it too but again.
we would have to use a lot of it
so we decided to make her own
pretty much the same mixture as
what we would use on the walls and it's
working good
the only thing is that if
we ever wanted to take this tile up, I
think, if we use the tile adhesive, my
guess is that it'd be a lot easier to
pick up
this is like
cementing it in
yeah
it's like brick
permanently putting the tile in
and the
thing is, is that had Garen laid a
couple these down with this stuff,
he'd of really wanted to do this cuz it
gets fun once you get it down
so I lucked out that I get to do
it
I like to lay tile
I like the ceiling
and the tiles
they look really nice together
we're gonna go out to the farm and see
what the new addition is

the next one we are going to need to move the ladder for

we were supposed to get a giant storm
this weekend so we are trying to pull it
together and prepare for all this rain that we're gonna
be getting
Bryson is going to re-hook up
our gutter
I'm aware that when duct tape gets wet, it falls apart but I'm thinking that
this is mostly a splash guard
and
then hopefully it'll go-
it'll drop into
our barrels
the water likes to rush
right in this area here so we're gonna
be hauling some dirt over and mounding
up there cuz we don't want to lose our
foundation to our building
yeah that would not be good
especially after the guys have done this
it looks gorgeous
will have to tarp
gotta get some dirt in here
re-hook us gutters
we got all kinds of stuff to do
this is your new roofing

it's awesome
we actually have this really big tile saw
what's our new way of cutting the tile
now?
we're using an angle grinder with a
diamond blade
we've got the piece cut
this blade is epic
but I'm making a glass mess
over here but it's amazing
if we run out of my garage sale tile
it'll go into the closet
everything is garage sale with us isn't it Mom?

two bucks for all this tile
it was
did you see that?
it had a two dollar sign on it
are you serious?
it really was two dollars
doing a thin set
over the top of it was not bad
gives it a nice hard surface and seals the
floor before you put this on
my hope was that we could use the thin set to get
it as flat as we could and then use regular tile mastik
?
Tarp's came off because we pulled them off
did they work?
they did
they kept everything pretty dry
we're able to
to get up there now today and even after
a pretty good rain and work so
that's great
look how much water we got
the dogs are even drinking out of it
hey would you guys eat the mosquitoes in there too

custom cut like this
on a big tile saw
just pick up these

you know us, everything around here is

we're down to our last tile
of the $2
tile that is
we got all the main
area so this is all the area that's
gonna be seen
we're gonna put tile there
it just won't be the same type of tile
it will be different tile and that's gonna
be underneath the cabinets so you won't
see that
that's cement mixture
that mom used, it's just awesome

yeah all right so we got our sheeting
for the roof so we'll be doing that next

it's not a breeze when there's a breeze
that there's a wind Merrill fridge I was
doing it a hundred mile an hour wind I
wouldn't feel too bad if I fell off
because I probably wouldn't even hit the
ground well where's it at
