Roofing & Tree Painting!
The whole family is back together to work on the building again. This week is the start on the roofing and some artistic design on the outside. It gets more exciting the closer we get! We will see you next week and please enjoy!

Video Transcript
last week Shae drew a tree on the side
of her building and we completed the
painting on the exterior of Shae's
earthbag bedroom
[music]
while we're in Florida
mom and dad are bombarded by
attention-seeking dogs
have all the dogs
here and they're so lonely since the
kids
since they've been in Florida
we have to deal with them and it's not been
it's five dogs
so figured that out
they were
so lonely every time Gary and I stepped
outdoors they were all over us
we thought we would have a lot of
extra time to be doing other things and
it really got gobbled up taking care of
the animals
yes
when it's just you and I we're gonna have one goat, one chicken,
and no pigs
or an ant farm
an ant farm
you don't have to do much with those
this is our
roofing that we have left over from the
Mus-Art studio so this is one of the
first things we'll put on and then we'll
go ahead and get some additional
material a little later

paper and trim and stuff
getting up some
rain bead up here on the edges and
corners
it drips off the edge and
falls down to the ground
while the kids
were gone we get to like eat anywhere we
wanted to
when you only have to buy for
two people it's really inexpensive
we actually left a tip and everything
it's like we can talk to each other
not a million interruptions
not that that's bad but you know we like
the interruption but it was different
we talked
so much that
we didn't get anything done
it's like, Wow
it's time to get the movie out
really?
what are we going to do?
gets to run with the big boys
so it's that time of the year when everything's getting cold
it's time to fire up my rocket
stove my room
here's my rocket stove
but
before we can do that I want to make
some modifications to my rocket stove so
we can get it a little bit better
put a layer on it
probably cob over the top of this
we're even thinking
it could be higher
right now
it's a little - you know
could be set up here
decided to pick up all the ant hills
and harvest all the dry
grass which is perfect because it helps
hold the cob together
so this is sand and then we got clay on
the bottom here
all our
ingredients
no ants were harmed in the
making of this video
uh-huh
got some wire brushes
wire brushing it
we're taking a wire brush to it
to rough it up
because this is linseed oil
and cob

still gonna
build it up
maybe do a layer today and then one tomorrow?
yeah, layer by layer
yeah
okay so hopefully this
this water will connect the two layers
all your beautiful designs we're going to go over the top of
oh, so sad
we can put new ones in or something
hope this isn't a bad idea
and there's all
kinds of things you can do with just the
dirt in your own backyard
all right we got the first layer on
create a nice tic-tac-toe pattern
make sure that we put
on our next layer
all right so we're
gonna wait and do this again

Shae, did you
come up with anything?
I think so
I thought we could do the finger
painting
you dip it in your
fingers and put it up
really?
I mean most
of these are done like by kids
like this
one you know
we'll know what we'll be
doing but
to make cherry blossoms is
what you're looking for?
yeah
I'm trying
to figure out what I want so we have
this which is finger painting
that's just the little droplets or we can do
something like
that
all looks like
smudges to me
hey now
what do you think Mom?
well, which looks most like a cherry
blossom because isn't that what you
wanted a cherry blossom?
yeah
I'm thinking that looks more cherry blossomish
do you think we should do this in the
background with a green
we could
for a
little leaf
what type of green would work best?
a light green
that's what I was thinking

what are you up to Garen?
roofing
sheeting
putting on tar paper first then we'll move to-

Hey Scooby, who can't get down once you've gotten up

I was talking to the dog

I just sit up there and whine
you sure you are suppose to be up here?

he's getting more confident
so we put some stuff on here

ooohhhhhhhh
we're gonna build it
up about four inches because the
pipe is really close to the top and
there wasn't much cob so there wasn't a
lot of places to store all this
wonderful heat
all right now just let it
dry and sit on it and if we like it
then we'll linseed oil and finish it
but right now it's basically done

we're going to put it on as we go

looks good on camera which is really all
that matters right?

you know when it's like a dot
if you zoom out enough
everything looks good
it's got character

so they go on black side facing up right?

this time around, with our roofing, we did
kind of the same thing we've been doing
it may not be new to you but we do like
this kind of roofing
Diesel is trying to
catch a bee
I think it makes it easy for
install
it has some durability to it and
with all the nooks and crannies and
turns and twists, it seems to work out
pretty well
we used metal on Bree's
building in the beginning and that's just
really difficult to work with metal and
all that
then we're going with a flat roof
which is coming up
we're gonna use the
same treatment we used on Brysons
it's a roof and patio combo
I think this is the
peak right here
okay
got it?
um hum
the verdicts still
out on how long this stuff will last
but we put on Garen's building
it was the first one we used this material on and
it's still
holding up really well
really well so
keep watching this video for the next 30
years

and you can see
there's more clusters around the branch
