Pressure Washer Digging

Not only did it rain but we devised an interesting way to break up the tough ground. One of us suggested using a pressure washer to cut the ground into sections that break apart easily! After the solution, the digging was much easier. Check out the video to witness other things like Mom's awesome sewing skills. Please enjoy!

the ground is too hard
previously we were stalled on the ground breaking of Shae's
earthbag bedroom
due to the lack of rain
[music]
[thunder]
the monsoon season has begun
it was quite spectacular
so much lightning
it's time to get those shovels out
and dig
my friends Esther, Deborah and Grace came
over for the first day
and helped me dig a little bit there
[music]
the rain only got
only so much but
we didn't do a lot of work but
at least that made it quick
looks fabulous
looks good guys
we got a really good start
it's suppose to rain again today
thank you guys
[music]
we're making poles for our acoustic panels
that were making
we found some Yucca branches or whatever you call
those like flower branches from the yucca trees
and now we are skinning them
give them a little bit of sandpaper
we recently got a few comments linking us to a guy who
put together some acoustic panels using towels
and several people commented that
we should check that out
which we did
and we just love the idea
we want to
make some of these panels for our new recording studio
downstairs in the Mus-Art studio
so went ahead and built them
Bree, you came up with your own design this time
I've done something inspired by the
design
hey're a little smaller because
the skinnier something is
the better it fits on a round wall
this is going lay over the top like this
I had this idea of having it two toned because
we weren't doing a box frame
we're trying to
figure out unique ways
to be able to pin both the towels together
and also put it
up on the walls
why don't we just put two sticks together and tie it
because we needed weight on the bottom
and something to hold it up
need to notch
that one there
with wire on the side
kind of a hopefully, unique design
Do you think that's good enough?
yeah
do something different
and use some of the things around the property too
which is Yucca
yeah
we use all of our towels at home so
instead we purchased some
and we found some for $2.50 at the store
so it was a really cheap build
we did a little sewing up top here
along the seam of these here
so it keeps it looking clean and nice
and a little sharper
I'm really happy with the outcome of them
I think that they're fun the wall decorations
and they're actually
we put them up in
the sound studio here
they're behind us
you can kind of see this one
hanging down a little bit here
It adds a little splash of colors to the room
amazing what some bathroom towels will do [laughter]
so they ended up being about $5.00
dollars a panel
we have a behind the podcast on that yellow wall
I like them so much I'm probably going to take them back
and make another set of them
maybe we can do that
yeah we can easily do that
[water dripping noises]
Our water catchment system got all of our rain barrels full
we decided to use that water
mom hooked a hose up to one of the barrels
and drained the water to soften the ground up
alright so now it's really soft and deep
lots of the water has soaked in
we're able to dig it down to that level
we're going down one yardstick
three feet
that's Shae's order
this is going to be the one circle is going to be three foot lower than the other circle
how's it going guys?
it's going beautiful
the dogs we're helping
they gave up?
but they gave up
the dogs were such a ginormous help
they move dirt and
move sticks
they did loosen up the dirt
if they were
able to actually get the dirt out of the hole
that would be a lot more productive
rather than just moving it from one place to another
you know she has a point
at least it's the... the...
thought that counts?
um hum
he's watching you dig
and he goes
I can do that
so he starts digging
kind of cute
is pretty amazing
[music]
getting deep
that's the root of our problems right there
"Rootpurd" [chuckles]
right there it stops
like that's it. It's dry
Made it to level
Woo!
look at Bullet
Good boy Bullet. Dig, dig for celebration!
If everyone does the same amount of work
it's going to take two days
to complete
work, work work, work
[music]
In the studio we still
were lacking curtains
and I've been putting it off
but I decided this
week that it's time to get those curtains done
I got a really nice sewing
machine
sometimes she'll use it
every 10 minutes it's been
Shae, I broke the
needle can you replace it for me
so I'll go in and I change it for her
look what she makes do
then she'll buy me a new package of needles
and you know it is because of that very thing as to why I was putting off making
the curtains
my friend Margie came over
and she gave me all kinds of sewing tips
and I must say she's only broke one needle since the session
she showed me how
you work with the machine
and if it starts to make a little noise
you don't push on the thing further
which is what I do
it's like - oh it's hard so I
push harder to go through
that's not what you do
you stop
those little tips
it made sewing...
it was really a lot of fun
we took those curtains and we put a blanket on the back to make them
weatherproof and that works really good for keeping the
heat and the cool out
I did two burlap windows
that blanket
kind of shows through
and then we'll do the valances the opposite
We had some other curtain material that matched
so we did those 0:06:11.880,0:06:13.480 since we put the curtains up
it's been keeping the heat out really nicely
so it's cooler in the room
and private for you too
that's been her temporary room until we can get...
when the door curtains are up
then it will feel private
yeah and that's the next thing
I'm working right now
a long Yucca pole
and I already have some curtains
Garen is going to put
together a bracket system for that
when I was sanding on that long pole
here came bullet
he saw me working and he wants to get in there
he's chewing
off the end
which is perfect as I had to cut that end off
he was awful cute helping out
[music]
we decide to use the pressure washer to cut the caliche out
that's pretty impressive
the pressure washer cuts right through it
we cut out with the
pressure washer
then we break out the chunks
and it worked surprisingly well
[laughter]
I'm really bummed about that shovel
that was your favorite?
yeah it was
this wimpy one
will have to be my favorite from now on
I was getting so dirty with all the mud
just shooting back up at me
I think it's functional if you don't mind getting dirty
I'm going to go put a quick shield on it
a shield so you could put it right against the ground, Garen
yea
It really does good over that caliche
I decide to make a quick, little shield for it
I have a five gallon bucket lid
[music]
Garen, I think that you have a dirt beard
I'm pretty sure that I have dirt legs too
are we going to try it out?
Umm Hmmm
[music]
It worked really good
surprisingly amazing
Is this whole using water to cut pretty easy?
I think so
more fun than what they're doing
I got to try it now
I'll go get shoes on
careful because we already broke one shovel
yeah we've noticed they're a little brittle
[music]
just going to get my boots on
[music]
I would definitely do it again
it worked really, really good
[music]
we really appreciate you being here
stay tuned for next time when we get the posts installed

talked and chilled and put together one of these
which was a lot of fun to do
it's gets to be fun because there's interaction
at the same time 0:09:47.560,0:09:48.660 with chat
you come in with your comments
laughing and joking
so it's a lot of fun
if you want to see that
