Building Interior Stairs & Burlap Ceiling Finish
So, so close! We have almost finished my bedroom and are already talking about upcoming projects. We changed our Valentines day goal to the end of this month (i.e. The Valentine Month :), in order to make the deadline achievable. We hope you had a wonderful “Sweetheart Day” and please enjoy!

Video Transcript
last week we installed the laminate
floor on the ceiling, painted some
artwork on the walls, and installed some
of the electrical for Shae's earthbag
bedroom
one for the downstairs and one for the
upstairs
we went with the R-30 insulation because we
have 2x10 rafters that come down
here on the flat roof
needed to go with the R-19
bought some stuff at a yard so -
really of use is it
flooring on both his flat and angled
ceiling
so we could see the reciprocal roof
design
ceiling finished
and now on this upper roof, we're gonna
use the burlap so we can see her cool
roof design
enough for right there isn't it

oh these are just spectacular staircases
things have been so crazy around here

step down from there

pieces - and they don't have to be precise

we want to kind of see the shape of

can do it, is we've been taken burlap, and

what we do is put
the burlap up there is we just cut out
pieces - and they don't have to be precise
because we just fold it under, put a staple
in it and the insulation it's held up
there

this stuff we're
gonna use for the clay on the rocket
stove
a while back, we went ahead and
added cob to my rocket stove in my
room and I've been to basically testing
it out and it's been working so far
now
we're ready to give it the finishing
touch
this is just sifted clay that I
did a while back

before we do this though
we gotta take this thing
off
we found out that when we put cob on
the actual top of the burner, we lost a
lot of our instant heat

it's full of cracks so, of course, we want
to go ahead and get it smooth so that it
looks nice

we discovered the more we work with the cob
the more pliable it becomes
pretty

I use a little water
and a scrub brush and I'm trying to
scrub off the top here
it works pretty well
I got that one with a
a wire brush

and then you weld those plates on and
then when when we put the cement on, it sits
over the top and holds the staircase in
that is good

this L bracket it's just from old bed frames
we pick them up at garage sales whenever we
see them because they're so
useful for building things

this entire room is still running off
the solar
if you remember Bryson and
Garen's rooms are running totally on
solar
we do have some cloudy days
every now and then out here in the
desert so we're finding we have to have
some supplemental electricity
we're just gonna install one plug in the room
that's hooked to the main power
grid power and then we have solar power and
the grid power is mainly gonna be used
for air conditioning so we're putting it next to the windows and an occasionally heater when
we're not feeling up to firing up
the rocket stove
I've tapped into the grid and
giving them one little outlet
each
I'm replacing this because dad used his
monster strength
I can't help it, I'm just
so strong
we're going to be flat and then go down the steps
we'll just add an L bracket
i'll weld an L bracket on
that's awesome
and then we'll put boards on top of this
nine
times out of ten, I find that you can
just go over to our hoop barn
we got a lot of building materials that we've
stored over time
you can walk over there
and find exactly what you need or
something that'll work and stuff always
turns out a whole lot cooler
just like
this this staircase here
we were gonna go out and buy a bunch of two by twelves
which would have looked nice too but
I was able to go over there find this nice oak
plank
this just really turns out nice

and then you can sand and stain
paint this black
so it's not really noticable
can I step on it?
yep
give it the first test
it's creaking
it's going to stop as soon as we get these stakes in
that was scary
okay so it's moving because it is not secured to anything yet
but the welds are gonna hold up
look at that
we're going to want to touch up the paint on the wall
and I
think you should paint this pole purple

on those flat plates and it's all done

it's only a three foot drop so you're

you fall

in the main house at the moment
you can

we're in the house right now
we have had one bathroom for many years
I'm going to show you what we got going

this is an upcoming project

this is the shell of the room and it's
just storage at the moment so you can
see it's all earth bags and it's going
to be a bathroom as soon as we get Shae
moved out but as I'm looking now, we
actually have some band equipment
that'll have to go down into the studio
but anyway, some
upcoming exciting things

we had our
Valentine's Day goal come and go but
since we didn't make it, we're just gonna
change it to the Valentine's month, as
you can see, we're very flexible on our
due date but we do try
I think we're
gonna make it
