Homemade Box of Cereal

Quick Breakfast

Cereal is a quick breakfast to get you started on your day. My whole family loves it!

Is it food?
We don't buy cereal at the store. Many are filled with unknown ingredients. I can’t even read the names of the stuff they put in most cereals. We experimented and came up with a great alternative.

Easy Peazy

Cereal is one of the easiest things to make. In our video, I will show one way we make our breakfast cereal. However, you can alter this receipt and let your imagination go wild. Make it to your liking and change it up regularly!

Ingredients

2 cubes of butter (1 Cup)
1 teaspoon of Salt
2 Cups of sugar - not something bleached white but has some nutritional value
2 pounds of Oats - Instant or regular - Instant is rolled thinner so whatever you prefer

Directions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Put butter, sugar and salt in sauce pan over medium heat until the butter is melted and sugar is somewhat dissolved. Butter a roaster pan to keep oats from sticking. Pour in the oats. Mix in the butter/sugar sauce until all the oats are somewhat moist. Bake for 45 minutes with the lid on. Stir and place back into the oven with the lid off for 15 minutes to brown the top. Eat plain or add cranberries, raisins or any type of dried fruit.

After we discovered we could make our own, we eat it regularly with our fresh goat’s milk.

Sweetener

We prefer to use either 100% pure maple syrup or local honey for our sweetener but because of the expense, we use organic, unbleached sugar instead.

Homemade Organic Cereal Chef ShaeOther Toppers

My Dad and brothers like to cut up bananas (or strawberries when they are in season) and put them on top. Sometimes we even put cinnamon in it.

Additions

Other nuts and seeds can also be added to the recipe - sesame seeds, sunflowers, cashews, almonds, anything you love. Add them early to bake and brown them with the cereal!

Filmed on Location!

We filmed this video while staying in a townhouse during on our Christmas vacation. We enjoyed a rare chance to play in a few inches on snow!
