Drilling Our Own Well using Homemade Pneumatic Drill
Attempt #3
The Air/Water well drilling works with sand. However, we discover the bottom of the well is hard ground, it needs something much stronger. The guys are making additional modifications.

Neighbor Rick's Homemade Device
If interested in making the homemade part to check the water level, you can buy the Piezo Electric Sounder at Amazon for a couple of dollars :)
Checking Levels
It is interesting to note that the static water level is 122 feet at the end of the monsoon season in 2013. The depth of the well is around 130 feet. Even with 8 feet of water we are not able to pump the water because the recharge rate is so low. It takes a few days to recover to the same level. Running a well dry is bad for the well. We decide to let it set for the winter while we haul water.
Water is Not Made for Hauling
Hauling water is a task that takes not only a couple hours out of the day, but is hard on both the truck and trailer. We purchase water for a minimal amount but it is located 15 miles away. We have to haul water at least once and sometimes twice a week because we use around 100 gallons a day (for both household and animal use).
Bryson the Idea Machine
We don’t know if it was the sun or warmth of Spring but Bryson woke up one morning with a new idea to pound through the bottom of the well. Click here!
