$10 Wood Ceiling, Window Headers & Tank Drop!
This week we installed the window headers on the kitchen expansion! We also zipped over to the bathroom and worked hard to get the ceiling up! All the projects are looking great! Last week, our neighbor dug us a big hole for the rainwater catchment tank! The guys got the truck and maneuvered the tank into place with a little difficulty but nothing we can’t handle! last week we move the water tank for the
rainwater harvesting, painted the
bathroom and placed a tire frame in the
kitchen wall for the earthbag additions
to the main house
[music]
we're putting headers
over all of the window frames
that way the weight of the bags and the roof
sitting on the top of the window frames
doesn't bow our window frames in and
break windows in the future
we're witnessing the bootless feet
boots are worth it
until it breaks 100 degrees and then
it's more dangerous to lose a toe then
to overheat and die
okay, I like it
they're made from either two or three two by
sixes put together
in our case, I believe,
we did three
okay father
we good?

and then we just cleat them
down and bag over the top of them
[music]
I was getting too reliable
I had to throw you a curve ball
[music]
going in for the kill, man

where's that header we're waiting on?
I'm going to be honest with you
I'm pretty sure dad's breaking stuff over there
and I probably should go over
there and fix it for him
because it would be so much quicker

yeah, in order to save time I break
it so that I have to fix it
you wouldn't want to get the job done to quick

we're getting ready now to start on the
ceiling in the bathroom
the girls and I were out garage saling
we found these wonderful planks
we got the whole stack
for like 10 bucks and that's what we're
gonna go ahead and use on the ceiling
we've used that before
on half of Shae's building and we used
it on Bryson's building and we've always
been very happy with the results
I'm gonna see if I can get started since I
got some free time to do it this morning
I can start with just
straight ones to go across here
it didn't take long and Gary showed up
can you start the first one
I think I was scaring him
put it in there and snap it
forward
I wouldn't even cut this off
just leave it
whenever you have a seam that's in the
field, that I can see
a seam
like one of these butts up to another
use this to butt the seams together
don't try to butt cuts
and I'm glad he did because there's the electrical that
still need be placed in there
I didn't realize it needed to be done so Gary went
ahead and got that installed
next thing I know, Bryson shows up
very cool guys
the expert has arrived
what do you usually make these cuts with?
a knife like I'm doing?
no the saw
just drop sawed it?
because remember this end here
just doesn't matter
alrighty
and the two of them
are just going to town putting those
boards in

oooohhhh fancy
I love that color

I just pulled this off and it has - look at how clean those threads look
it's amazing
for as many years as that things been on
after Jeff left, we needed to
put the tank inside the hole that he had
just dug for us
the first thing I needed
to do was plug three holes before we set
it in
we're trying to flatten the bottom here
so the tank is sitting on semi-level ground
the plan was simple
I would take the truck, tie a tie to the top
I'll just hold the two ends
and drop it over on its
side on top of the berm that he had
created with the dirt they pulled out of
the hole
that's exactly how I planned it
then I was gonna take it
and roll it
right into the hole from there
and that seemed like the best
plan
this didn't exactly work so well
it's got a little dent in it
it'll buff out
It'll buff out [giggling]
it tipped over nicely and it rolled pretty
nicely but it got jammed up a
little bit before it went in and it kind
of went in a little bit on the sideways
a little askew
we decided we would run
the truck the other side and hook it up
to the top and see if we couldn't pull it in
I think I can go through here
he thinks it's funny to go run around the
big equipment
did mama say no?
[dog whining and howling]
oh, that is pathetic
[music]
the guys were getting the barrel thingy
into the hole - geez that's very
descriptive and I thought they were
planning to kind of plop it in sideways
and so it fell in and I thought it was
funny so I laughed
[laughter]
then dad turned
and gave me the death glare
which made it more funny what I didn't laugh
it's kind of one of those things that
aren't funny in the moment but give them
a month or so
we had to disconnect
that, run around to the other side, pull
it up straight,
[music]
yeah that's it!
and then we finally got
it a little bit closer to where we
needed to have it
[music]
here's another idea
then the last thing we need to do
we have a big a-frame thing that we use for
different things so we took that
we set it up there
hooked up a come-along
on it
pulled it up so we could position it and turn it and stuff and
Bryson got on top and he's clicking it
yahoo!
I love it when a plan comes through
and our A frame is going eeeeee
anyway, he did it perfect
got it spun around
got a set down
let it down the hole and boom we were done
we got scooted into place and the holes all
lined up directly to how we want to
bring our water in
just looking great
just perfect
on top of these headers,
along here
instead of running barb
we pop in nails here on the top
like that
to give us the nice spikes
nails here will of
course, hold them from slipping off
look at this ugly wall
this ugly wall
we are gonna bust it down as soon as the
roof is on this sucker
I am so ready
just gonna
in anticipation I'm just
gonna take down that little hole
right there
that's my
had to get that out right there
we found on these arches, if you add a
little bit of cement in to the dirt and
it'll help it to harden
a little extra around these areas
we're gonna do like a soil cement this time

our tire is collapsing

alright, I think that is probably good Garen

okay
there is a razor blade here right?
I tried but I did do those cuts
I just want to make a note
mom made this
wonderful cut

I almost got to put that one in myself but
no luck
Bryson's here now and he's going to do
the complicated ones
Dad was trying to tell me this yesterday
I couldn't figure out
woke up this morning and all of a sudden I went
that's what he was saying
this distance
of this board here that goes all the way
out there is a different distance than
this board here that goes all the way down
whatever this distance is, we have to
take and measure it along this board and
make a same mark along this edge and
then we know when we put our board up, to make
that same edge the same distance
I've been watching Bryson do these fancy
cuts and it reminds me a lot of
when we were putting in Bree and Garen's
ceilings
we did the same thing with the
pallet boards as they went up into those
triangular sections
that line is incredible
yeah
he does it so well that
we won't have to trim the outside
because it's just in there so tight and
nice
he does a beautiful job
[music]
all right guys, no more bagging for a
little while
up until we get some of the roofing on
and then we know where else to bag
yeah

that should work
I did those four pieces so hopefully
I don't know if it's going to work but I think it's gonna
will confirmed Ritter's or did you do - it's

a place where I can finally help a
little bit more get this thing finished
up Garin wants to work before tomorrow
