Kitchen & Bathroom Earthbag Addition
Episode 10
Painting, Tire Frame and Setting up for Rainwater Harvesting!
Fun and exciting things are happening! The bathroom gets a couple layers of paint and we receive some cute port holes for a shower idea! Outside, Mom finds a tire to put in the kitchen wall. The tire will be removed later, leaving a hole in the wall for us to cob in the bottle flower! Our neighbor pays us a visit to help dig a big hole and move our old water tank. This will be used for a new and improved rainwater harvesting system off of the new kitchen! Check out the video for all the fun details!

last week we installed the corrugated
metal for the shower and planned for the
bottle flower kitchen wall for the
earthbag additions in the main house
[music]
I'm curious
what did the girls bring us
home
ready?
yeah
oh
that is just absolutely
perfect Shae
do you like it Gar?
it's beautiful
It's gonna look great in here
[music]
we came across a black water tank a
while back at a garage sale
great find
100 bucks
we have this old tank that's
been up there for quite some time
oh yeah that's probably put in here in the
80s
it's been rusting over the years
so why not quit repairing it
and use it for something else
we don't need one that large
Jeff gonna dig us a
big hole so we can drop it in the hole
and begin to plumb it in
we decided, as
part of the kitchen, we would also set up
a whole new rain water system
we have one right now
it's a very hodgepodge
we have rainwater catchment on one side of
the house and another type on the other
side of the house
the rainwater catchment was just an experiment for us
a few years back but it's really been a
successful thing
one deep hole
yeah, I guess
that's amazing
do you know how long this would of taken us to do this with shovels?
I've dug many holes with shovels
I don't like it
that's why you have the tractor
yep, yep
we want to move to the next level so this is gonna
be the tank for that
three thousand gallon tank and I think currently we
were storing somewhere around maybe
a thousand gallons max
and one storm could fill those up and then the
problem is is two days later we might be
heading into another storm like that
which you don't know really if you're
gonna get it or not
I'm trying to use
water up everywhere I can and then the
storm may or may not come
we miss out on a
lot of water
or the storm will overflow
everything and then we just have water
falling on the ground so it's kind of
missed opportunity that way
disconnecting the big tank so that we can have
Jeff pull it off and he's going to carry
it over there for us and set it over
there next to the hole
we'll work on the
tank and get it ready to plumb to put it
in and then at a later time, we'll get the
tank set in
[music]
you guys in there painting without me?
[humming]
ooh that's pretty
[music]
got me a scorpion friend
calling it Fred the scorpion
wondering if it will move
oh no, it's on the move
he's cruising
oh, he went right into the paint
okay ready
I'm going to try to get him with my foot
I hope I don't miss because it could be painful
should I or not?
yeah
now you started it, smash it
[dramatic music]
[splat]
got him
sorry about the spot
to commemorate Fred, we're going to do that
[music]
I'm loving this color
guys
I think it's going to suit this bathroom real well
it's just cheery isn't it?
it really is
a really cheery color
[music]
we have completed layer number one
about to go
back through and do layer number two
we are?
it's looking superb
the youngest is
the boss - that's the rule
I have glasses now so you get to be bossy when you have glasses
actually no, I have to go work
honestly
but remember that whole - the youngest is the boss
thing
Bree talk this out of -
working
we should wait for it to dry thoroughly
before we do a second coat which is kind
of logical
what do you think Shae?
I'm glad someone notices my logical brain
so we're gonna let this paint dry instead
of sitting watching paint dry because
we've all heard tales of that
[music]
I'm going to like this
look how cheery that looks
it helps to finish it off
get our cabinets
put in here, our toilet, shower and sink
area over there
this is gonna be nice
okay, we're ready
gonna bust that right off
[music]
[Jeff laughing]
been on there probably 30 years
get my bucket under there
I'm short on one end
why don't you tall guys come over here
is that what the problem is?
yeah
okay
about 10 swings and my tongue is hanging out
[music]
Jeff had a great idea of using the ratchet
strap and the bucket end to move that
tank because honestly, I was like,
how are we gonna move such a large tank
like that without some crane
you know what I mean
but he thought of a really brilliant way
to move it
it's awesome
worked really well too
[music]
until the strap broke but that was the straps fault, not the ideas fault
he used the bucket end of the tractor
and backed up, lowered it, and moved it
[music]
how much do you want for it?
your work today?
let's just call it a couple hours
couple hours at?
75 and hour
and I got Bud Light was that okay?
because I didn't know what kind
oh yeah, that's fine
you didn't have to get me none of that
oh not, that's the fun part
okay, I'll be right back
some bucks and bud light
it's all he needs
he's an awesome
neighbor
well my friend, I appreciate you
yeah, that was awesome
I don't think we could ever move that on
our own
just don't let Gary swim in it
[music]
[dog running and barking]
he's special
he needs to get his aggression out
he's catching him too
because Diesel is jogging
the good thing too about Jeff digging that
hole is now we're gonna have dirt that
we can use to finish up the
building
and in other little projects
because a lot left over
that the floor on the
kitchen is gonna need a lot of dirt
so even though we're almost to the top
- we're still gonna have to
haul dirt but the difference between
digging dirt and placing it in the
wheelbarrow - there's quite a bit of
difference
in that section that we
dug up was very very very sandy
so we went ahead and added a little bit
of clay to the soil to make it so it'll
harden
if you smash it and if it sets up like that like
acts like a dirt clod, then you
know it will work
[music]
that is a small tank
let's get it up there
[music]
when we built Shae's building, we framed in a tire and then built over it and then
pulled it out and then that made the
frame for the window so we're gonna do
the same thing here so we can frame in
where we want that bottle flower to go
Shae and I are gonna walk over to
the hoop barn and see if we can find a
tire that will be - it has to be about 22
inches wide is about how wide that
flower needs to be so we'll go see
walk over there and see if we can find
something
what can we find in our tire pile
ooh, look at that one down there
that one looks good
oh yeah
that's gonna be
yeah that's 24 inches
that will be perfect
here
that will be perfect
put that right here and we will jam another one in on the other side
[music]
what happened to the little banter you guys have?
then they get a little warm, they're not near as funny
[music]
could it be that oven hot heat here in the Southwest?
[music]
the mustache is coming off today
oh, okay
[music]
hey look Bryson it's a package
no way Bree
should we open it?
yeah
you got mail
it's like Christmas morning for building
oooooohhhhhh
kay
what have we here?
so wait - oh these are
going on our shower aren't they?
for the little windows
like that
don't you wonder how they make these
curved glass
speaking of wondering, I don't know if
you've wondered about where Garen has
been but he's been at a wedding - not
his own wedding but A wedding in general
for the past week
he just got back and
we're excited to have you here

is it scary?
yes
yeah now you show up
quick get the camera so we can complain
[giggles]
ugh
[giggles]
dang it
she's suggesting video games mom
I was merely suggesting a past time
while we sit and let the paint
dry instead of watching it dry
your hobby is fun-ism
[giggles] funism

are you going to make me a movie star?
I am, yeah
the thing with these packages, they
should put something fun in there
bubble gum?
I'm thinking like chocolate or
or make these things explode
when you pinch them
even like a little cheesy desk toy would be fun
like in Monsters Inc where they have
those suits
and they walk
around
you're the levithan Bryson
from fortnight
are we gonna make them so
that they can open
while we're in the shower?
because you never know when you might
want some fresh air
[music]
