last week we moved up a few more bag
layers on the kitchen and got the
bathroom shower frame installed for the
earthbag additions to the main house
[music]
[music]
we have a traditional stick framed wall
that separates the laundry room from the
new bathroom so we're going to go ahead
and insulate that to keep the noises
from either side going either direction
and we're going to put up some sheetrock
[music]
mudding, just a quick little sloppy mud
job
it doesn't need to be real fantastic
because it'll never be seen
it's the undercoating
then I seal it
coat it as a
moisture barrier
easy peasy
this is fiberglass tape
[music]
right now I'm gonna go ahead and let this dry right and then
we'll probably give it a texture that's
very similar to the existing wall we
put it over here
should be fun
[music]
[chicks chirping]
every year we have issues with losing
little chicks so not only did we keep
them safe during the hatching period but
we also placed them in here so that they
can grow up to be bigger chicks before
they get into the main area in hopes of
keeping them safer
when you live out on
the farm and you observe animals, the
first thing you notice is how much they
love the dirt and how much they love
taking a dirt bath so we want to get
them out to that dirt as soon as we can
along with their chicks
and aren't they
just adorable
look at these little things
you saw last week -
some of you were asking -
they're not turkeys
they will be chickens
this is how we replenish
if we can get three
hens out of this group, we'll be doing
good
we'll have them for potentially 10 years
yeah
we sure like having them
[talking silly] going to lift this is very heavy
thing into that that window place there
on the bags and we're going to make it
level because we don't make it level -
what happens is we have to tip our heads
to make it look out the window then the
world is all screwed up because it's
crooked
and the ground don't look like
ground
what's it look like?
it looks like mountain
[singing] are you happy
if you're new to the channel, it's kind of like
a cleat
put the cleat between bags
with nails sticking up and down to
hold the windows in so that they don't
slip around inside the bags
since there's no king studs or trimmers or
anything inside the windows to hold
things together, we use cleats
we were nailing them in all by hand
It took forever
we've gone to the next century
and we move to a newer century
much faster
what we do is we, uh, we place
these three on each side so that when I
nail in from the opposite side of the
window - or screws - in to one of these
keeps that window
from moving
so how many of you end up
doing per side?
we do three per side
[music]
ooh
texture looks really good
you said you're gonna hit with a sponge?
yep
it doesn't really show except for that
starting to dry so that's looking good
I'll sponge that down real soon
this has one coat
I'll put another coat on it
shiney
we get that done
then do another coat
and we'll be flying
[music]
[singing] oh we oh
hi oh, hi oh, it's off to work we go
my job is very simple
just to tease
I keep the morale up
[music]
to install the metal corrugated sheeting
against this wall means that I'm gonna
have to frame something around the
faucet handle so that the sheeting can
come right down to it
we're using this
composite plastic wood
what I'd like to
do is to have two pieces and we're gonna
have a little section like this so that
when we put the flashing around it,
we'll be able to get most of water to
spill over the top of the wood rather
than fall inside of the wall
this is the
top piece that's gonna fit right yeah
I've drilled two holes and I've countersinked
them so that we get the screws to fit in
nicely and now I'm gonna glue it on and
screw it on and then we'll be putting
some caulking on it, some silicone
caulking
Gary had to go all the way to town to get these
really long screws
I have assembled the
plasticized wood around the faucet and
it looks like we'll be able to caulk
that in and then the piece goes wall
right over the top of it like that
it screws in and screws together
look how nice that looks
we're gonna be putting in some trim at
the bottom
we have some metal flashing
then I want to throw out the bottom
no
sharp edges - I don't think
that's a little sharp but
like Garen says - the most you'll do is break a hip
that is so funny
no big deal
not like wood is it
no - it
has wood fibers in it though
it's plastic and wood together
need the glue and
scribe
these little guys do
do you know what you're doing?
never
If I knew what I
was doing that would be dangerous
this goes
right up in here
a quick little dry fit
[music]
this is the largest bag I've lifted yet
can I do it is the question
it's not too bad
[music]
thank you for reminding us about the
bottles in the wall
I think we would
have actually forgotten them
with Gary putting on all these beautiful big
windows - which I'm really excited about
the amount of light that's going to be
coming into the kitchen but I'm
concerned now that I may not have a
place to do a bottle flower
I got all my
bottles that I gathered up to make my
flower
Shae helped me get these all cleaned up
[music]
these won't actually be like this
they'll be like this
[music]
gotta move fast
my feet are gonna burn
oh, we'll get you to the shade
I'm thinking like up in that corner
oh yeah
right there
see what Gary thinks on
that
the flower is kind of big so this
would be the only wall left that I could
do it in and the winter sun is going
this way so I'd like it to be
here but I don't know how much that's
gonna throw your cabinet wall off
it doesn't matter really
any place up in here you want to have it
I'll put the cabinets -
I can build the cabinets where ever
perfect
so
flower there
[music]
these are sheet metal piercing screws
they have a little rubber
a rubber section
the only thing I am a little
concerned about - does anyone else notice
the angle of the water
he's gonna extend that out and drop it
straight in the middle
that sounds smart
[music]
all right nothing paint hopefully mom
likes the color cuz I'm not sucking it
back that's gonna be it for this week oh
it's so cute dad dad has got the medal
on the shower which it looks absolutely
amazing it's not done yet but it's
definitely getting there and you can
totally kind of envision what its gonna
look like when it's done paid for next
week's surprise color well thank you for
watching we hope you enjoyed and we will
see you next week in it I drop my
countersink down the drain so I'm gonna
go fishing for it I'm a magnet and my
straight line here okay so let's see if
it's down no you can run around inside
where there's not dirt huh
where there's not dirt our family moved
from the city to the country thanks for
taking part in our adventure we have new
videos every Friday evening if you would
