Transcript of Video

Bree: On the previous episode, we completed the reciprecal roof sheeting and framed the skylight for the underground earth bag studio.
Bree: We receive a surprise phone call from Suzy an Ondura representative and offered materials to use on our roof. Today, it arrives.
Garen: Push!
Bryson: Awesome nails.
Gary: Got in contact with the Ondura folks, and they sent us out a whole bunch just for the MusArt Studio. So. It is something we would have used it anyway.
Shelly: What’s that?
Gary: I don’t know. It’s a vent…
Shelly: Oh and there is the ridge pieces.
Garen: For the ridge…
Gary: We are sure thankful that they gave us some product. And we are all set. It’s awesome. it is really awesome. I’m very excited.
Bryson: We are very grateful they were willing to do this. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Gary: The Ondura roofing is here. But the first thing we have to do is lay the tar paper. It’s tar paper time. Is it up yet?
Gary: Unfortunately, we ran out of of tar paper. So, we have to tarp it. And we have to do this real soon. We are expecting some rain, company is coming. We have these great big billboards that we are going to use to tarp have of our roof. We expect rain and we don’t want our OSB to start swelling with water so, we are going to go ahead and tarp it.
Gary: He’s going up. He’s going up.
Shelly: He’s not moving.
Shelly: The tan.
Garen: The tan ya. this is the stuff we are going to be using.
Gary: This is the Ondura Product we will be using for our MusArt Studio. We put it on a couple buildings already. So, it has done really well for us.
Garen: it works really well compared to metal because you cut it easy. You are not dealing with a Skill Saw with the blade backwards and you got metal shards flying everywhere, It is super flexible, it works well. We have kind of weird bends that happen in our roof. So easy to work with.
Gary: Ring shanks, washers for water proofing, Painted.
Gary: That’s good enough. We can figure this out.
Garen: We can change this. We can slide it up and down. We started putting up the first bay. Kind of figuring out where we want everything. We start laying them out. The wind started kicking up. I was looking like it was going to rain.
Gary: Your width measurement. If you could give me that.
Garen: Was that ok. That line? Let me nail this so I don’t lose it.
Gary: What we ought to do is sight these. Go to the right a little. Just a touch. That’s it right there. Back a little. That’s it. That’s perfect.
Gary: At one point it even blew some of our sheets.
Shelly: It sure is tough.
Gary: Ya they are. So we had quite a bit of wind.
Garen: So we grew together the one bay that we got.
Gary: As soon as possible.
Garen: Ok. I’m doing it right now. We put things away and wait till tomorrow.
Gary: It has been a couple days.
Garen: It was kind of good that we ended up running out of tar paper because we had a lot of wind. It ended up ripping some of the tar paper off anyway.
Bryson: So let’s do this. Let’s take and lay one right about in here. So from here and way out. ok. And then we can this one down.
Gary: The Ondura folks gave us a piece of flashing and the Ondura goes over the top of it. We can seal all that in then we can push our pipe up for the flu. And make our tolerance and everything else. It will work out great.
Shelly: Auh oh… Injury. You are suppose to hammer the nail not your finger.
Garen: Tell that to the hammer...
Shelly: It was the hammers fault?
Garen: It was the hammers fault. It was out go balance.
Bryson: Unbelievable.
Gary: Sorry Garen. It’s called training.
Bryson: A poor craft mans blames his tools Garen.
Gary: Our good friend Marvin came out to help out. And we are very grateful to have him out here. He is quite the carpenter too.
Gary: It right here. A staple form the staple gun.
Bryson: Sure, go to the camera for sympathy.
Gary: You know I have seen a lot of kids with saws in crews that I have run. It is amazing to watch these guys use these saws. They are so confident using them properly and safely. I’m so impressed.
Bryson: I totally dig on purpose. It is totally flexible and on the roofs we do….? and so it is really awesome.
Bryson: so, we are trying to figure out a solution to the skylight. We might of found one. we are thinking about taking the ridge cap and setting it on the skylight and bending it around.
Shelly: Do you thing it will work?
Garen: it is the best idea so far… If it leaks…
Bryson: You guys are the deciders…
Garen: Because of the caulking we put up…
Bryson: It’s not my fault.
Gary: It will be Bryson's fault regardless…
Gary: We are going to run some flashing in here too. The water will fall in there too.
Garen: It bends pretty nice..We will just bed it over. one side at a time…trying to get it to the top there. And just nailing it down. It really seems to be working.
Bryson: Running caulk on that side. So that’s the last piece? Hopefully we don’t have to come out and fix it. In kid two hours. Whatever… Now it is time to put the skylight up. So, are you going to run caulk around the edges without the flanging?
Gary: So we can run the flanging.
Bryson: It is almost done…The skylight is on my friend. That means our job is done.
Garen: I’m really liking the way the roof turned out. It has a nice little curve at the top… the skylight...The Ondura is so fast to put up.
Gary: It kind of goes with our non traditional round rooms and funky roofs that we do.
Garen: the first one we did a couple of years ago was my room. It is just no different than the first day put it up. It hasn’t faded. it looks really nice.
Gary: It gets really hot in the SW, So…
Shelly: The people at Ondura didn’t ask us to advertise for them. All they wanted us to do is take a few pictures of the finished product. Like Gary said, whether they would have sent it to us or not, we would still have went with this roof because it is our favorite material. and I have to say I really like the tan color and I like the way it turned out.
Bree: With the roofing complete, we will be moving inside now. well we think… Be sure to tune in next time.
All: Thank You
Gary: Garen will take off for about five months …heading up to do a job. Where are you heading to?
Garen: I will be working at a ski resort just through the winter time.
Shae: I just wanted to say it was good to hear from Cricket because we had not heard from her in a long time.
Shelly: You heard from Cricket? yeah… Hi Cricket.
Bryson: Yeaaaaa.
Shae: Our family moved from the city to the country. Thank you for taking part I our adventure. We have new video’s every Friday evening. if you would like to help us out, like this video, share it, subscribe or support us on Patreon. See the links in the description.
Shelly: We got a request to take down the trampoline. So, Spike Spegal. This is for you buddy. Bryson is very happy to doing this today. So, It’s out of here. no more trampoline.
Bree: Bryson is working like crazy to fix his drone and when it gets fixed we will get an overhead shot of the roof. Stay tuned for that.
