last week we installed the earthen cob
floor for Shae's earthbag bedroom
[Music]
we
asked you for ideas for the patio
railing and you did not disappoint
if you are in need of railing, check out the
comments from last week's video
there are several awesome ideas

working on the location of my next one
thinking it out
yeah
we have two objectives for the patio railing
we want
it to be done quickly and inexpensive
we start with the old faithful, the scrap
pile and lo and behold, dad found
something he could use for the stairway
[music]
okay
starting down here at the base
screw in at the bottom
boop-boop with some screws and then
secure it at the top by plumbing this
drilling a hole, cutting this off, fitting
it up in the hole, glue in the hole at
the top and then screw down at the bottom

what's the hole right there for?
a big hole
to put your finger in
it's like a dike
water splashing out of it
outside light
is that like the in on the outside?
it the outside on the in light

Hey Gary, I got a light bulb for you
alright
oh, that is so cute
wait 'til Shae sees it
oh yeah

Mom's making it look pretty
While the floor is still damp, it's still
pliable
it's taking a long time to dry
but we're able to work with it
we could just wet it and work with it
I was a little late to the
party
Shae would be out here working with
me but
I brought her a chocolate
she
gave you a chocolate Mom
she gave me a
chocolate
Shae didn't come out but she gave me
chocolate so I'm good now
oh was it one piece
mom doesn't need much
so I'm easily bought
I did join her
and I did help her
yeah, you did good
flattening the little spots
the floor has been drying for eight days,
it's still not quite there yet so we
gotta wait till it's dry in order for us
to be able to continue the process of
completing it
while we're waiting for
the floor to dry we're gonna go outside
and continue work on that rail
we got
looking around in the animal area and we
found a whole bunch of pool fencing
we weren't using it
we used to use it
for hog fencing because it works really
good for that but then you guys designed
and made that cute little hot pen so we
just have not used it for years so we
thought why don't we go ahead and try
using this up there
it's free and it's
here so we're gonna give it a try
might
as well
take and come in a bit of an angle
what you can do you do is you can cut them at an
angle and then just rotate them
you can weld
the seams and then just drill a hole and
just as long as you're running on the
outside you'll always have something to
screw into
Shae, do you want to climb out
there and see if I like that height?
we decided to mount it on the side instead
of actually just setting it right up
just screw them to the side and
weld the tops
plus
mounting on the side makes it a lot
sturdier as well
yeah I like that a lot
I picked it up originally from
Craigslist
people sell it because they
take down pools or they change their
fencing
you and your 3d glasses
I think they're fantastic eye wear
it's my eye protection
it's readily available for
us at a reasonable price
easy to put up
there too
if you have a hog, it works
really good for hog fencing too
that bar on the bottom keeps them from digging under
we just have to make a
special cut in that one
we could figure out those cuts
I don't know what was wrong
we start turning them around, we know we have to cut them an
angle so they come in
we know the angles
like 22 and a half
yeah
where is that
special cut cuz it looks like it's gonna
fit to me
no matter what we do, it's
wrong
if Gary was here or Garen, they
seemed to be able to visualize that but for
some reason -
we have the 2 people who don't
visualize working on it
that is the most painful thing I have ever seen in my life
it doesn't go in very good
I don't have the strength
I just have to pin it and Bryson will save me
okay
one more screw left and
the drill battery died
we have all these
gaps now so I'm going to have to go through and
patch them all up but, hey
I was concerned that it was gonna look really ugly up there
who is it that wanted to keep this
branch?
we always want to keep branches
if we can
Oh, tree house
let's talk
about the tree house
just what we wanted
we want a very
epic - cosity
epic - osity
epicosity
and so
we've decided to postpone it a little bit so
we can give it a lot of thought
and then
we'll come back to the tree house and
make it really cool
so we're gonna start
on the kitchen and the bathroom instead
we picked up this lovely sink for 15
bucks on Craigslist and we're going to
be putting it in this upcoming bathroom
here
our second bathroom
we're gonna convert
right now it's storage space for
my stuff
it's kind of interesting
it goes down into whatever counter we make
for it and then it'll have a rim
that comes up like that
here's
the thing, we kept cutting the two
angles and then putting them together
but I started thinking, why don't we just
cut the chunk out of the center
twenty-two point five this way and then you flip it
around
go to that same measurement, 22
point five this way and it makes this V
you cut that V out of the metal and
theoretically, they should just kink
right together and then we can keep it
all in one
there's the magic of these
nice little slits here
there's our angle
that's just awesome
I think you got this

what's surprising
too, is that you haven't welded them yet
how strong they are
when you get done
welding them it's gonna be very sturdy
which is good
I also think that if we would have put
them above, I don't think it would have
been as strong
all I did was cut out the
bottom and leave the top and now we
can just take and
really nice ends
[music]
I just gotta go through and finish
up the welds
I'm really shocked at how
much I like it
it ties it all together
so nicely going up and I think it looks
good
matter of fact, we like it so well, we're
gonna put on on Bryson's
which I'm
excited for
and it was quick and
easy to put up
I really like the security of that
- it doesn't invade the space
I'm surprised
at how well I like the look of it
looks very nice

unexpected cold weather which delayed
the drying of the floor but once it's
dry, we'll get back in there to finish up
the loose ends on Shae's earthbag bedroom

you do a little bit because you had to feed her chocolate
ya, you got to maintain it
that's what I'm thinking
yeah but that's too much
maintenance
are you calling Mom too much
maintenance?
no, I'm calling giving that much chocolate away too much
emotional effort
to depart with so much chocolate
okay, I can roll
with that
our family moved from the city
to the country
