Bree: In the last episode, we ran out of burlap to complete the ceiling
Dad worked on the headboard for the Murphy bed
Bryson designed and 3d printed door knobs for the cabinets
and Shae installed them
[music]
We are driving towards the goal of completing the underground, earthbag, mus-art studio
With several finishing touches still needed to be completed
the family heads downstairs to see what is next
Bree: Ooohhh, it's really dark in here.
Bree: The gap between the ceiling and the wall still needs to be filled
This looks really ridiculous
but we did this on Bryson's room
to go between the ceiling and the wall
we'll trim it off and paint it purple
and it will look halfway decent
I'm using spray foam
Great stuff. This is Great stuff right here
[music]
I do not take responsibility for my fallage
[music]
Bree: Troublemakers
You want it a different color
[music]
[music]
This is where Dad fell through
Yeah, he said he fell through all the time
but he really just stepped
small step
What I'm going to do here...
Shelly: Cut it out exactly like he fell out then?
Bree: [laughs]
I think you should put a band-aid on it and have Dad sign it
How about this one Bryson?
Right?
This has got to work right? Am I just dyslexic?
Shelly: Tape measure
Bree: He puts them away in lost
Maybe he put it in the house
with so many of us working, we are always misplacing the tape measure
I have to get these out
Bree: And you wonder why your finger is smashed in
Oh yeah, that's a good point
Bree: Hi Dad
Dad: Hi
Hopefully this will reach
and hopefully Shae can get it turned on because
it's not sounding like it is turned on
Shelly: Shae did it!
Bree: Here is your staple gun
Bryson: Thank you
Straight out to that corner right there
So I would draw a line from here out to that corner
Shelly: Out to that corner
Bryson: Out to that corner
Shelly: I want to go to that corner
Bryson: Do not go to that corner
you want to go to this corner
100% this corner
Bree is that right?
Bree: oooohhhh, don't ask me
Shelly: Very confusing
Bryson: I'll bet you a dollar
Shelly: Okay
I'm going to get a dollar. No, no, I'm gonna get a dollar
So I have to go directly down from here to here
Bryson: No, you do not
We're trying to figure out how to cut the ceiling tile
It turns into a game for me but Bryson is taking it rather seriously
Bryson: This is how this goes on
We need this corner
Right, you said this corner
It's wider
Alright, do you have a tape measure
No, it's upstairs
Bryson: I don't want to make a bet but
Bree: Yeah, backing out now
I'm going to go down and prove Bryson wrong
Bree: Come on Bry!
Wait, are you pulling for Bryson!
Bree: I'm not. I think you're right so I'm trying to console him now
Shelly: you know what, he's right
it won't work. Oh yeah it will.
Bryson: It will
I don't know Bry
Nobody won the $1 bet because, I'm not really sure
Bree: Where's your sense of adventure Bry?
Shelly: So unfun
Bryson: Well, we only have so many of these so
be a little careful
Can I cut it?
Yeah, please do
[music]
Mom, I think we were both right
I just didn't tell you I wanted extra
[music]
Gary: How is it going?
Bryson: Do I have time for a shower?
Dad: Yes, you have 15 minutes
Bree: Bye Bryson, thank-you so much
Bryson: Alright, Bye
You guys are so awesome here
I thought about taking the extra tiles
that one youtube video where it talked about taking the towels
and hanging them up
with a bunch of towels
Gary: Oh yeah
Shelly: Maybe we could use some of this
in conjunction with the towels
Gary: Yeah, let's try it out. I like that idea
Bree: I think if we colored them something to accent the purple
I think it would decorate the room a little more
one of our biggest guffs with the walls is that they are gnarly looking
and that would add a little bit of class to it
Yeah, it would
It looks a little unfinished but
it's so necessary for down here
Bree: Function over look
Gary: Alrighty, we are going to head out here. I will come down here before we go.
Dad and I got a chance to go to an observatory
so we slipped out early
Shelly: We're going to try to trim this off
to make it look like it's part of the wall
It just has to look like it is part of that stucco wall
and then Shae will come back and paint over it
it will blend in a little bit better and fill in that gap
I slipped and kinda tripped and
did that. Isn't it beautiful?
Shelly: Yeah
It's like my signature
[music]
Shelly: I don't have a light down here though
Bryson: Now?
Shelly: Yeah
[Fan slowly turns on]
So I wired up the fans so
they will work off a normal plug in
mainly because we wanted to test them
and we needed to get some air flow down there
they are working great
Shelly: Oh yeah, I can feel it
Yep, it's pushing air out
I don't see any sparks or electricity so
that's good
Shelly: It's always a good thing
[fan slows and speeds up]
So I was reaching my hand up there to check the air flow
the tube is getting air from the bottom of the room and sucking it up
to the top of the room
Shelly: Good job Hon
It's already changing temperature in here
The one in the ceiling downstairs is the one that is pushing in air from the rocket stove
the idea is to get the heat from that and bringing it downstairs
And, over here
It's pushing air up
And it's really cold air too
which brings air up and pushes
it up into the other room
Bryson and I were on the electrical for the building
We started on all the outlets. We banged that out quickly
We were able to discover where every wire went
Usually we put everything in and then wonder what switch is what
Where does this one go?
Where's the tape measure. I need a tape measure.
Getting the height of the light is the fun part
they all are a little different
Bree: These things are really cool
Bryson: These lights?
Yeah
Bree: What are you wearing?
Bryson: Army pants, flip flops and...
Isn't that kinda uncomfortable?
with that in your toe like that?
Bryson: Very comfortable
[Bree giggles]
[music]
Why are you filming me!
[Bree laughs]
[music]
Bree: What are you doing?
Garen: Putting in a light
[music]
Getting the length of the light was very confusing
Bree: How did you get it higher if you dropped it lower?
Hopefully, you have a good eye, Bree, for level
Shelly: He's just that good
Bree: [laughs] Where is the
the logic in that exactly?
Drop that one a few inches I think
Measure 21inches from the floor up
and then you know there is this much left
and you get that cut and you measure the next one
And you look at the two, and go
huh?
Bree: This one could come down a little further, I would think
You realize 21 inches from the floor is very, very short right?
92 inches from the floor
Whatever
just saying
Bree: Drop it. Drop it. Drop it like a top.
Cush!
Shhhhh, don't get that on film
We got our fan going on a 3-way switch
so we can turn if on and off from either floor
the can lights were already in right?
the can lights were already in. We put the caps on them
Shelly: We got light bulbs
Garen: This is the unboxing and drop test of
[laughter]
They're led
Garen: I'm so much faster than you
What's this Bryson. Why are you messing me up?
I'm not messing you up
you said you could do it faster
Garen: Are you serious?
Bryson: Yes, I'm serious
Garen: Are you serious?
Yes, I am serious
Screw in a light bulb Bry
Alright. I'm going to go plug it in
Okay, let's see if everything works
The testing at the end was... everything worked
which was important
It means we did it right
Bree: That looks so cool
Garen: The room right now is set up on house power until we can afford to get more solar panels
Shelly: Let's go downstairs and check
Bree: After all these months working in the dark, I'm excited for this one
Where's the switch?
[music]
It really lights this room up pretty good
Bree: Yeah, it does. It looks great guys
wonderful work
I got home from work today and I'm so excited
the boys went ahead and got all the electrical hooked up
It's all working so good
they've got the fans working
they got the outside light working. Once we get one
the stairs are really well lit
so now we'll go down here
I'm very excited. They did a great job
Stay tuned for next time when we edge closer to completing the underground studio
