In the last episode, we fixed the hole in the ceiling
and Bryson and Garen installed the switches, outlets and lights
in the underground, earth bag, Mus-Art Studio .
[Music]
The last thing needed in this building project is floors.
Remember that rubber floor downstairs? Time to divide and conquer!
Today is the day we try to save our rubber floor we tried
awhile ago.
We're going to pull it up
in as many chunks as we can and
put it in the base of the stairs
We're going to use this to stick it to the floor
I don't know if it will work but this is the plan.
Bryson, if you can hear
he's got the fans going
so that will help with the air flow down here as we are working with some of these chemicals
The purpose of moving the flooring is, we checked into the price of it
and the price was getting ridiculously high
[music]
It's very costly
to fill in all the holes in the floor
and we started calculating and going, "Wow!"
This floor is going to cost over $1000
that's ridiculous
It also doesn't fit into our normal, build it cheap mode
We don't want to give up on the idea so
we are taking what we have now
and moving it into the base of the stairs
Seeing if we can salvage the rubber floor
Should we go for the whole floor?
Bree: I'd say see how far we can go
Shelly: Okay, I like that
[music]
Bree: Maybe a mistake but we are going for it
Shelly: Yeah
This whole thing might be a complete disaster
Let's go with that much, huh?
I'm thinking about doing it like this
if that is all we have
Bree: And if it doesn't look good we will pretend it looks good
so we are proud of it so people won't say anything
Shelly: Yeah, we'll say, "Oh, we just love this floor!"
Bree: Then everybody will go, "Oh, yeah, it's nice."
Shelly: Good plan Bree, good plan [laughter]
Shelly: Okay Bree, I liked your plan
do like a section here of
cement or cob
Bree: okay
And we'll just go right into it
and that way we won't have to buy any more of this stuff and
it will be good enough of a test
Bree: Yeah, see if it works. I love walking on this rubber floor.
Going to fabricate some latches
that we are going to use to hold the Murphy bed up
We'll put a handle on this
And it will slide like a bolt
and a knob goes on here. It will be cleaned up and painted black
Shelly: So are you welding?
Gary: Yeah
Shelly: I didn't know you knew how to weld.
Gary: Can't be all that bad, can I?
Shelly: I guess not
[music]
We're going to get these dragon heads like we have on the cabinets
We're going to be using those as our latch pulls
Shelly: Oh, you spray painted it too.
Gary: Yeah and I'll stain around it.
Shelly: Oh, cute.
Does it work?
Gary: Yes.
Gary: Of course, muuuuuhhhaaaaa
[music]
Bryson kept that fan going all night
so we got it dry but it is definitely
loose
It looks like flex seal is going to do the trick
I got a little can of this Flex Seal
We got this idea online from Tom, Tommy and JR
Thanks guys
It says to pour or brush it
I'm kinda afraid to pour it because
the can will only cover a 4 inch square spot
Bree: Should we pour some polyurethane on all of it
Like pour all the rest of the polyurethane on the floor and then do that later
Shelly: Yeah, maybe we should do that
Bree: if it was solid, it looks like it would do really well
It's coming up on all the other places
Bree: After trying to apply the Flex Seal
We decide to go back and add more polyurethane
because some of the rubber mulch is not glued down
Shelly : How is it working Bree?
Bree: Good
I'll get the sponge saturated a little bit and then
it will be really good
[music]
Shae: You too sir.
Our burlap came
So we'll be able to finish the roof
over here too
our flooring material
so we are ready to go
Shae: Woooo!
[music]
Hey guys
Shelly: Hey Bree, do you notice anything wrong?
Bree: Like a little gathering of cloth right there
Shelly: There are actually 2 different colors of burlap
Bree: Oooohhhhh.
The light coming in
you'd just expect that light to be lighter and darker down there
so it kind of works in gradients
It's like burlap gradients
You'll never know
except your watching
Shelly: Alright
Here we go, Flex Seal
Bree: Let's see your magic
It better do something awesome because I want to walk on a floor made for the gods
And I want angels to start singing when I put my food down
It's pretty much all one piece now
Still some pieces popping up here and there
Bree: are we going to have enough there?
Shelly: No, but it was never intended to be enough
Bree: Oh, just to see if it would work
Shelly: This little can was like $15
You can buy a gallon for about 90 dollars
Bryson suggested too, that it comes in a spray can
so he suggested we give it a good spray
which I think runs about $15 too
And then that would keep everything real solid
And then we could come back over with additional ones like these cans if we wanted to
Doesn't that seem like that would work?
I'll get some more and keep at it
Bree: So Shae, What are you doing?
I'm cleaning the steps so we can
fill in the holes
chisel off the excess little weird things
A cement type mixture
there's a couple little spots
make it nice so we can get it ready to paint
[music]
Bree: the guys clean up the upstairs.
It's really cool
Bree: Yikes! No, no Max
Oh boy
Oh, you're going to sit now. Lovely.
Shelly: Shae is there any spots up there I need to fix?
Shae: The bottom looks a little rough
Bree: Alright, come on.
Let's get out of here.
Bree: We got this nice, fine looking, Max print down here.
Fixing all your mistakes Max
Don't worry about it.
I got it
Fixed it
Alright Shae, does it meet your approval
Oh yes
Okay, where do I go next?
The next place that needs it
Bree: Just a step down. It's a step in the right direction.
It's like the kids, at some point, the roles reverse
I have to go to her now because she is way better.
Bree: You're too modest Sister
Shelly: Can you see how level you think it is?
Gary: I trust in whatever you got.
Shelly: I appreciate the confidence but would you check it please?
Gary: on my way down
Bree: I'm on my way [singing]
Gary: Beautiful
Bree: Beautiful he says fixing it
Bree: Thanks Dad
Gary: Your welcome
Yeah, I got this one
Gary: This is Marvin, he's back
Bree: What are you guys up to today
Gary: Trying to get some pad laid down
Marvin has graciously donated some carpet
We took it right out of his house so there is no carpet in that room now
He said he could do without for a few months. No big deal.
Gary: That looks perfect
Gary: It looks good all the way down.
Shelly: Pick up the little scragglers.
I got the spray one
Oooohhh, this is a lot easier.
This Flex Seal is definitely doing the trick.
We're going to be happy with this
And then that will be it for that floor
Let's get out of here
If it doesn't work out. We'll take it out and put a different floor in.
[music]
[indistinct talking]
[music]
Gary: I'm going to get the iron out
Marvin: almost covered the whole thing
[music]
Stayed tuned for next time when we install the upstairs floor.
