Kitchen & Bathroom Earthbag Addition
Episode 6
Shower Pan, Sheetrock Mud & Window Boxes
The additions are plugging along! The walls in the bathroom are looking snazzy and the guys are working on the future shower. For the kitchen, Garen is putting together the window boxes! Also, we went yard saling and found a few things for Shae’s room!

last week dad repaired the soil cement
floor, installed the nearly forgotten
exterior outlet and we got off to a good
start on the stucco for the earthbag
add-ons to the main house
[music]
everybody does it a little
bit differently but this is the way I do it
a little glob in my hand like this
globby
and then you stick it up where you want
it and then you fix it into
the cracks there and then you do so on
the next little rung with the added
little bits, you connect the dots but you
have to apply some pressure
because it'll decide that wants
to come back out
it's best, to have the hand right there
keep that left
hand or right hand, depending on what
hand you are
this is like the perfect
consistency
it's not too wet
because if
it gets too wet, it won't support itself
so you'll be able to quickly do one
little row but as you start going up
it's all organic so you're gonna have
ones that come out a little more than
others
if it's too soupy, it closes in on
itself, just flops off
the
worst feeling ever
put a little bit of
cement in here also helps harden
things a little better too
which will be great for the bathroom
because it'll be a lot of - you know it's
a bathroom
hardens up nice and good
all
right
this looks spectacular
just looks
so good
not sure how we're gonna do the
mirror
we might consider hanging the
mirror from the ceiling
oh this is cool

my excitement level just went to
zero

little wall here - that's where we're
gonna also put metal - not sure yet
how to protect these little walls yet
but let's get the big thing in and I'll
worry about that later
if the little walls are metal
they will be a waterproof as well
yeah
make sure the base layer needs
to have trim around it
if you have a
sharp layer of metal
yeah
around the corner
I don't really want to be cutting my feet on that
oh
yeah, I think there's
enough of a lip on it
it's kind of close

ahead and put that wood there and then -
no I don't know
any ability to get cut

the nice thing, if you cut though and
you're already in the shower, you can
just clean up
with adding cement to our
mixture, our walls are really hard
in Shae's room we put the sheetrock mud on
it, it just softens the wall, makes it
look smoother
want it to be it smoother
because we can
might as well
yeah, it's a
tougher wall and that gets us a
smoother wall too
it's perfect
we love the combo
do something different
every time
keep trying to find better ways to do
things
this is our newest
I'm sure
it'll change real soon again
like always

I don't think that that's right
in that corner we had a
little bit of trouble with the distance
that I had that corner piece put in
that's not the important part
the important part is having this be flush
across this

was in too far, and I thought it was a
mistake
we're perfect
everything about us
we never make mistakes and this is
just proof
that's actually a happy little
mistake right there
and then we
looked at it and then found out that it
actually worked
does that mean it's correct?

which is how we do things
around here

probably have to get two or three more
boxes of this
ya, if we are wanting to do a double layer

finishing up the last of the sheetrock mud
gonna try something a little
different
we're gonna do one
layer and then we're gonna do another
layer right on top of it
so we'll get
this one done and then we'll let it dry
up
we're so close to finishing it
and be ready for the second layer
section done

setting up my video, computer workstation
I've
never had one this big so I'm pretty
excited
the guys thought of putting the
desk under the desk so I'm just gonna
have so much room back here
it's gonna be whoa
massive upgrade
I'm very, very
excited about this
lots of room and be
able to spread the sound speakers out
when Gary does the sound, he'll get a really -
instead of being all cramped up on one desk

take it down about an inch and a half - two inches
your pipes only that much under grade
so I have to be at least an inch and a half
below grade
your pipe needs to be
an inch and a half below grade
which is where you're at right now

approximately there now but that's the
cutting line yeah

down low enough I can cut
something you don't want to make a mistake on

put your level back on and go to the
highest point on that
measure up
up to this end if I have to
the tile is gonna come up a little bit too

okay, it looks like we have it set right now
it's in a temporary situation
until I getting it button down on all
the sides
have a little bit of firring
to do to get it matched up where that
where that flange came up underneath but
that's okay, we'll figure that out
that's it
we're done

it just sits there
that's all I want

it's gonna be 59 and three quarters -
we can't
really go any further on the bags without
knowing which windows we're gonna use
we found the windows we want now so we can
build the window frames and get them
ready to go up on the wall so that's
what I'm doing today

set one up there
see what it
looks like
wish these things were heavier
all right
normally we take from the
ceiling height and then come down
because we want several layers of bags
on top of these before we get to the
roof
we'll probably go up about two or
three more layers and then we'll install
these
they're is also going to be a smaller one above the sink and that one
will go up even higher

this is Tina
she's a turkey
she was
about two years old when she came to the
farm and she's probably about seven
years old now and she loves to sit on
eggs
every spring she usually sits on
the chunk of chicken eggs
she was sitting right here and Bryson got her
moved over here
last year we tried to do
this
we moved the eggs and her all at
once and she was so disturbed
so this time we moved the eggs and then a day or
two later, we moved her and she just
sat right on them
we're gonna keep her
caged in here now
the reason we'll do
that is so that the chickens don't
bug her and then once the chicks hatch,
they'll be in a safe environment too
instead of falling down through the hay
or who knows what happens if they
hatch out there
she's protective
she's a good mama
in three weeks or
so, she'll have some chicks hatching out
hopefully
if all goes well
this is our
wonderboard for inside of our
shower
dad picked up some supplies
and we'll be getting those installed next
week
