Window Boxes, Smooth Walls, & Honey Harvest
Aunt Debbie has arrived to join in on the fun! She fulfills her lifelong dream of harvesting honey (a little sarcasm :P ). We start work on the walls and she immediately claims the honor of working on The Seventh Row. After some hard work, we are ready to install the first window boxes. last week we begin applying sheetrock
mud to the walls, installing the
framework for the shower and pan and
Garen built the window boxes for the
earthbag add-ons to the main house
[music]
Mom, you are ruining the wall
oh my gosh
yah
what are you doing?
we decided to do something
different this time
we would go over it
with a second layer of the sheetrock mud
our objective is to get an even smoother
wall
what is that?
I'm coming back
[laughter]
okay, I'll get a tool and start helping
[music]
we got the ultralight and the ultralight sheetrock mud definitely seems to be better
there's no cracks
so boom
this is what it
used to be
you can tell that there's a
lot more lines, a lot more bumps and
edges and we'll head back over here
you can tell how smooth it is
there's a little bit of a texture
it looks nice
so there's your comparison
[dramatic music]
this is my Aunt Debbie
she's gonna come out with me to check on the bees
take a look
she's brave

very brave
something my brother won't even do

so we've harvested some of the honey
yeah yeah
and the bees are still pretty
calm
we got the smoker
only one time
they got angry and then we smoked them
they chilled out
chill out bees
[giggles]
all right should we go check out the other
hive?
yeah let's do it

how was the experience?
it was awesome
they got a little
nasty so we had to fire up the smoker
and they were all over us
really?
right there on my face
calm down bees
it's okay
gave them a little kiss
now that you survived that, I should let you
know that bees have as good a sense of
smell as a dog
really?
so they could smell me coming?
that is so cool
I could break off a piece of this

it tastes like candy

it's really coming down

it's not perfect, it's got some stuff in
it but all that's nutrients

I love how the zoom out and zoom in is barely anything

when you go in, you pull out

Grandma has decided to help

we do that in order to keep the walls a little
bit flatter on the inside so that when
we do the cobbing, it's easier

how's it going?
I couldn't find a sponge
this is what I was left with
a piece of fabric
let's get you a sponge
there is no sponges
alright Shae, here's your sponge
I found that this fabric works
way better over here where it's already
dry
okay
it's a rougher material
this one
will definitely work on that newer stuff
okay
this seems to be smoothing a lot
of these bumps out
you get the sponge wet and then we were
rubbing it very gently and it
seemed to really work well
damp though, not wet
to kind of smooth
out some of these bumps
it doesn't
always get the bigger ones but
definitely, if you can feel it, it feels way
smoother
this is really rough
sandpapery
but our goal is to smooth
it out a little bit and it does
definitely gets a lot of the little
hitches in it
makes it a lot nicer
the best thing for it, is your hands
I found out that when it's soft
you are hilarious Shae
but look at how amazing it is
it is amazing

okay so eighty is right there at the knot
yeah
now we come to four feet
I'll show you where the bottom of the window goes
bottom of the window is probably right about there
so about three more layers
yeah
two would be twelve
we probably got to go two layers
with the family being so busy
anymore - the kids get older everybody
just gets so busy and one of my favorite
times is when we all get out here and we
work together as a family
I'm looking forward to the future but
am sure enjoying it now

the kitchen goes in today
oh that's excellent
were going to get the window frames in today
and yeah - the window frames
it's exciting that they are still around to help
us do this because they could ditch to us
at any moment

they're still here and their still
helping us out

we're gonna use the beam
that holds up the post to give get us level
as we go up the hill with our bags, it will stay plum
