Transcript of Video

Bree: In the previous episode, we finished the frame for the ground floor in the earth bag underground MusArt Studio. We were planning to do the natural light and venilation video this week but we have had so many wonderful ideas from you, we need time to process and think about it. So, instead,, let's go ahead and check in with Dad as he works on the bannister.
Gary: What's good about a post that is secure is if you can actually make it part of the floor.
Bryson: With the bolts in, we can so we can bolt it down.
Gary: You may remember how we cut down the tree limb. We used a lot of that cut down and branches and stuff. That's what's cool about mesquite it is really twisty and fun.
Bryson: It's not like plywood. Straight.
Gary: We bolted it right to the 2x10's. We are going to run that at 38 inches on the post height and then we will probably come down another inch with the ability to wrap the hand rail, the bannister rail that is going to go around. Maybe like 40 for the top section after we get the railing piece on. And then bag right up against it and then put some blocks in. So, that make really nice strong post as apposed to attaching it with a bracket or something to the top of the deck. That's hard.
Shelly: Now what are you going to do?
Shelly: Yea. Come on. Good boy.
Max: Roof
Bryson: Now that the main post are in, we are going to head down stairs. The first thing that we need to do is to get the wiring in. Laying down some electrical?
Gary: Yup. Doing the 3 way switch so we can turn the lights on and off upstairs...and the fan too.
Bryson: And the bottom switch becomes the main switch for the lights. So, right now we are running the track lighting. We need to get the wiring done so that we can get the walls on and the ceiling.
Shelly: So, we are doing wall prep.not a lot of wall prep though right guys? Just a little bit?
Shae/Bree: Mostly the big holes.
Bree: What you are seeing is the aftermath. I was carrying this on my shoulder and right when it got on my shoulder...boop...It fell right here.
Bryson: we have modified this to run con through but now we are going to run mud back through it, So, It is going to be the mixed perlight mud so, it will act a lot like our normal mud we run through it. A little more watery than that...
Shelly: Ok. So the plan the guys are doing...
Gary: Is to mix the mud with the perlight. Which is a textured surface that we can actually put right into the mud and it will create a texture for us. Very similar to a textured ceiling would be in the old days.
Bryson: One to one for right now. Got to see what comes out. We are going to add some water...just a little bit I would imagine. Alright. should we go test it? Ok Dad, let's pour some in. ready?
Gary: It might be a little...
Bryson, It's a little too thick. Yea stop.
Gary: We started out with a ratio of one to one. Equal amount of mud to perlight. So, then we add water. till we got it to peanut butter. We made sure that was our first one. Then I went to pancake batter. I wanted it a little bit thinner.
Bryson: What do you think of that?
Gary: Bryson,
Bryson: It sure is texture. I wouldn't worry about those strings ma. we will go right over the top of them.
Gary: That is soft. more? this is yours. I got to make more. I came up with the idea because I know sound moves in a straight line. Sometimes it's omni and it goes in all directions, but usually it moves in one direction until it hits something. And the more times it hits something, the weaker the signal gets, the weaker the sounds gets. So. the idea was it that with the rolls of the bags you het a little bit of deadening.the sound hits that and rolls in and disappears. And it also too, reflects off the little pieces of perlight. That will also send it someplace else and it bounces off something else. and it starts bouncing. The more bouncing we can get in there, is better. The flatter the walls are it just bounces back and forth. But if I can get all kinds of different angles and soft materials and that causes the sound to deaden. and that is what we are trying to get. It sounds good when you are standing in the middle. And when you move over here it is a lot quieter. Over here. A Parabolic shape, half of a circle, works just like dish or receiving signals. It draws that into one space. The middle of the room is probably going to get the most sound coming to it. The further you get to the edge, out to the wall space, it will be less. When we start capturing sound in there the best place will be on the outside of the room as opposed to the middle. Testing 123 testing 123. The acoustics have already changed by the time we sprayed on the that little bit right there. This is the testing spot right here. it is going back and forth.
Bree: We could mud right here and retexture later. Ok... What this perlight does according to dad, i learned 5 minutes ago is...it makes it kind of light and frothy, it gives it some air. Bryson, what is it used for?
Bryson: It is a dampening sound. the mud and the perlight help dampen the sound.
Bree: My Little Homestead theory.
Bryson: Are we going to paint this too?
Gary: Ya. It get some paint too.
Shelly: There is not a lot of paint though.
Gary: We may need another box of mud.
Shelly: Nice hole Bry...
Bryson: It made this hole...we were loading it and made this hole. But it is a mess. next time we open the bag, it doesn't open by its self. Isn't this perlight for gardening?
Gary: Yes.
Bryson: You know those plants we get in our wall all the time?
Gary: Hey Ya. we could grow trees on the wall.
Bryson: Well I mean. do you think they will be coming up a lot?
Gary: No.
Bryson: Somebody added too much water.
Gary: Almost like pancake batter rather than peanut butter. The test. Pancake Batter.
Bryson: No.
Shelly: No?
Bryson: I was thinking of something else. I guess...
Shelly: You were on a different subject?
Bryson: I was:
Gary: You were thinking of food. I said Pancake. Ohhh Dinner time.
Bryson: I was thinking of food.
Bree: Stay tuned for next time as we continue building on the MusArt Studio. Thanks for watching. and Have a great week.

Bryson: you are getting pants all dirty with your shoe like that.
Gary:
We installed...(Kachint)
Bryson: Dang it.
Gary: Sorry: (Kachint) Ummmm
Bryson: Stop it.
Gary: Are you ready now? Here we go. Stop waisting film. Oh...it's not film. Waisting space. We are going to call it sheet rock mud perlight pancakes for you Bud. It didn't taste like pancakes though.
Bryson: It tasted like calcium
Gary: Sheetrock mud. Sheetrock, water and Filler.
Bryson: Sheetrock mud....
