Bree: The stairs are completed on the earth bag mus-art studio. Garen begins planning the layout for the upstairs circle
Garen: We wanted our bigger circle to be centered in our smaller circle. And the center circle has the stair case so, we had to account for that. So, we moved the reference pole over and put a little extension on it so, we could get higher.
Garen: I just moved center of the circle closer to the staircase and then made the circle a little bigger. I got my pole in and I'm going to draw it out and I'm going to level it off and lay the next layer of bags. Won't we? Yes we will.
Bryson: Drop it.
Garen: We are... Finding the highest point in the bags that we can know where to put the top of stairs, actually in our circle.
Bryson: We know what we are doing. We're professionals.
Gary: We accounted for a 6 foot opening.
Garen: The 2 front posts there you see, are where the French doors are going to go in.
Gary: ...a possibility of me putting in a 6 foot slider going in.
Bryson: It's a circle...It doesn't matter, it's in your past.
Garen: I'm figuring out your guys' hole. I try to keep you guys on track. And filled with dirt.
Shelly: Max? So, you're king of the mountain?
Gary: Here we are installing a berm around just the side of the building. We are getting a little bit of pooling around our first layer because of all the rains we've had lately. So, that's a good thing we want the rains, but, we need to be able to divert the water out of the foundation level. It's a common building problem. It's not just us, but, any builder needs to keep water out of their foundo's and get things to firm up for the build to set on.
Bryson: This is the desert for you. One second it will be like , "Hey. It's nice and sunny". Then next it's says, "Now I'm going to pour rain on you". So. Ya, anyway, we're going to see how well this hold up. Hi Pig.
Gary: We've had a lot of rain lately, we just love it so... But it has made our bags soggy on the outside. we had to let them dry out. And now they're dried out enough where we can work and get our next layer on.
Garen: If they get that wet all the way through like a real mud, if you move them at all, they just turn into this real mush and it can cause tons of problems all the way down.
Gary: We don't touch the bags when that soaked. We just let them dry out naturally.
Garen: We have to skip a few days. Once we get the stucco and roof on, they will never get that wet.
Garen: I'm not playing. I'm sidetracking the dog so mom can video. Therefore, I am a key piece of instrumental work.
Gary: Not just an adornment?
Garen: I don't even know what that is? Is that like a decoration?
Gary: Yea. Rather than a decoration.
Bryson: The steps frame is becoming the holder downer.
Gary: We've put in about an hour a day. Maybe a little bit more on the circle to try to get a row a day. This area here will be vented. There are going to be 3 areas that are going to have an open space underneath the wood floor. We have a gap between the dirt and the bottom of the floor. So, it is always best to make sure you have plenty of venting down there. So, the gases don't vent up, moisture has a place to escape... Keep the garments out by using a block with slots and holes in it and some 1/4 inch carpenters cloth. It will be cut as a screen that will put right over the top. And we are just going to bag right over the top of those blocks.
Gary: we have to continually cover the bags. We will work in the morning when it is not raining and then cover the bags. So, that whatever we get in the afternoon rain comes through and we won't soak our bags so bad we won't be able to work the next day.
Garen: We are kind of firming it up a little so that we won't get water running through. We don't want it to run into the bags. We want it to run to the dirt and pool around the bags.
Bryson: I just self-conscienceless made this when I just shoveling away. Now you can watch the whole hole while everyone else work. And you can just sit.
Garen: It is amazing how fast it really goes when you just do one row a day. That thing will be up in no time.
Next time we’ll bring you our progress of the growing walls and preparing for several windows. have a good week or whatever.
Garen: Pull it tight. Walk around. Oh, you have to keep it tight. Good boy.
Shae: Our family moved from the city to the country. Thanks for taking part in our adventure. We have new videos every Friday evening. If you wold like to help us out, you can like this video, share it, subscribe or support us on Patreon. See the links in the description.
Garen: Diesel, don't step on the nails. Don't drop that now. Aaauuuggg.
